November is American Diabetes Month

In the United States, November is American Diabetes Month. Across the nation, senior living communities are bringing special attention to those living with diabetes and highlighting their stories in efforts to help raise awareness for the disease.

At Pacifica Senior Living, we believe drawing attention to the realities of living with diabetes can help individuals at-risk for developing the condition seek lifestyle changes that may improve their outlook. By providing education and resources to families, Pacifica Senior Living spreads information about diabetes and diabetes-related lifestyle factors to help individuals understand more about their potential risks.

During American Diabetes Month, our staff will be working with residents to share information about diabetes and draw positive attention to those living with the condition, giving them a platform to share what living with diabetes is like. Fortunately, small lifestyle changes can greatly impact a person’s prognosis, including dietary improvements and engaging in physical exercise. This education and focus on wellness aligns with our mission of empowering our residents to continue to live an independent lifestyle well into their later years.

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is sponsoring a calendar of events throughout the month of November to celebrate individuals living with diabetes, including Q&A sessions which offer families the opportunity to speak with experts about various aspects of diabetes, including prevention and care.

During American Diabetes Month, we encourage families to seek education about diabetes, learning more about who is at risk for the condition and the ways it presents in its earliest stages. For example, proper management through one’s diet and exercise routine may minimize the impact of diabetes on their life, or prevent the condition from progressing in pre-diabetics. There is a wealth of information available to those seeking to better educate themselves on the effects and warning signs of this disease.
