Memorial Day 2022

“Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices.”

-  Harry S. Truman

For many of us, Memorial Day is the holiday that we think of as the official start of summer, and we celebrate with barbecues, garden parties, backyard bashes, or trips to the beach. However, we recognize that there is much more to this holiday than picnics and potato salad.

First observed in 1868 as a way to pay homage to soldiers who had laid down their lives in the Civil War, the holiday has since evolved into a national holiday to commemorate all who gave their lives in American Wars. Also called “Decoration Day” in reference to a tradition of adorning graves of fallen soldiers with flowers, it continues to be a solemn day that calls to mind the ultimate sacrifice so many made to ensure our continued freedom.

At Pacifica Senior Living we honor those that have fought and laid down their lives, and our hearts go out to those that were lost and the families of loved ones who have paid the heaviest price. Many of our residents served in the armed forces, and this day is one which brings back memories of those lost and their service to their country that are reminders to us all of the freedom that we often take for granted.

As we plan BBQ’s and other celebrations for this holiday, we also remember that this is a day for reflection and gratitude for those who gave their lives. We pause to remember all those who through their sacrifice have given each of us a chance to make a better, kinder, more loving world.

We invite you to experience some of the events we host throughout the year, each designed to enhance and engage our residents in enriching activities. Though we celebrate both joyous as well as somber occasions, we do it all through the lens of ensuring that our residents have opportunities to continue their life-long traditions of marking special holidays and events. We also encourage friends and family members of our loved ones to visit on these days as we seek to continue to create special memories together.

For more information about any of our communities, we invite you to review our upcoming June newsletter and community calendars for all next month’s events, and experience the Pacifica Senior Living difference yourself.
