Pacifica Senior Living & The Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Each year, the Alzheimer’s Association sponsors fundraising and awareness events nationwide. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the largest collaboration of awareness happening in the nation, bringing senior living communities, their staff, and their residents together in the fight against Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer’s disease is a neurological disorder impacting more than 6 million Americans, with rising numbers of diagnosis for early onset dementia. When a person lives with Alzheimer’s, they may experience memory loss, confusion, agitation, and emotional distress -- among other life-altering symptoms.

The Alzheimer’s Association is the nation’s largest non-profit organization dedicated to researching Alzheimer’s disease and providing support for families, like counseling. Thanks to the Alzheimer’s Association, hundreds of families are able to access the care and information they need as they navigate life with Alzheimer’s disease.

At Pacifica Senior Living, we are not only committed to caring for our residents living with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, but we are committed to bringing awareness to the condition. Our community members, staff, and residents have been participating in The Walk To End Alzheimer’s nationwide throughout 2021, with upcoming walks happening throughout October and November.

On the day of the event, all staff and residents are encouraged to participate. Some choose to make baked goods for attendees, others create arts and crafts, t-shirts, or jewelry. The walk itself takes place over two miles, as participants carry flowers to signify perseverance in the face of challenges.

Each community sets a goal for the amount they would like to raise toward the Alzheimer’s Association. Many years, our communities have gone above and beyond their goal to raise more than they expected -- though raising awareness is as valuable as any dollar amount.
