Super Bowl 2023: Celebrating the Big Game

Feb 8, 2023 11:35:23 AM / by Pacifica Senior Living

It’s that time of year again, and our communities across the country are ramping up for America’s most watched sporting event - the Super Bowl! Football is a great sport supported by fans young and old, and is a great way to bring together families and friends from all generations.

This year’s Super Bowl LVII (or Super Bowl 57) will see AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs face off against the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on Sunday, February 12. Kickoff is set for 4:30 mountain time, with fox pregame coverage running throughout the day.

The superbowl is notoriously a highly televised and popular event nationwide, and football fans from all walks of life tune in to see the big game - whether their team is playing or not. Even music fans and those who may never have watched a game throughout the regular NFL season often tune in to see the spectacle. Roughly 75 million to 150 million viewers tune in to watch each year, and Super Bowl 2023 is expected to be no different.

The Kansas City Chiefs are coming in strong, having finished the season with their tenth consecutive winning record. This is also the team’s third Super Bowl appearance in the last four years, having lost to Tampa Bay in 2021 (Super Bowl LV) and beaten San Francisco in 2020 (Super Bowl LIV). This recent string of success over the last few years puts the Chiefs ahead as the favorite to win.

The team, under head coach Andy Reid, has had a strong season, with standout player front-runner for the 2022 NFL MVP award, quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes leads the leagues strongest offensive side alongside Pro Bowl tight end Travis Kelce was the team's leading receiver.

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to matchup against the Chiefs under second year head coach Nick Sirianni. The Eagles have come our strong this season, winning eight consecutive games and finishing the season with an NFL-best 14–3 record. In playoffs, the philly team continued to do well, easily beating both the New York Giants and then the San Francisco 49ers in the Championship Game.

Philadelphia’s quarterback Jalen Hurts leads the charge, and is the youngest Super Bowl quarterback in Eagles history. The team is also particularly strong defensively. They have the second best defensive side in the league, and allowed the fewest yards.

The Eagles most recently played in 2018, winning Super Bowl LII over the New England Patriots.

Aside from the sport itself, one of the large draws to the event is the Super Bowl halftime show. This year, Grammy award winning singer Rihanna will perform, making this the first time she will do a live show in more than five years. The halftime show has also been rebranded by Apple Music, who bought the rights from former sponsor, Pepsi.

Residents across our communities are getting together to celebrate this great sporting event. Many of our communities will be throwing watch parties and game day events. Our residents and staff alike love to get decked out in jerseys and team colors, and our lobbies are decorated with festive decorations and team swag.

Of course, no Super Bowl Party would be complete without game day snacks and appetizers like hot wings, chips, sodas, jalapeño poppers or nachos. You can get in touch with your local community to see what festive activities we have planned, or come join us to watch the big game! Whether you enjoy the game with grandchildren, neighbors, friends or loved ones, Super Bowl 2023 is sure to be an exciting event.
