As we transition into the new year, many families are experiencing the impact of rising food costs and nationwide labor shortages. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a lasting impact on our economy, creating challenges for companies and organizations nationwide.

In the face of the pandemic, many families are turning to long-term care for peace of mind. The rising costs of food and labor can create concerns about the costs of care, but we want to reassure families that we are striving to maintain affordability at Pacifica Senior Living.

We are budgeting accordingly for the year ahead without impacting our residents’ quality of life through unnecessary cutbacks. We will continue to provide delicious and filling menu options at our communities, serving recipes our residents love.

Our social calendar will proceed with fun, stimulating events, creating ongoing opportunities for residents to have fun. We are continuing to follow COVID-19 safety precautions while providing chances for residents to make friends and bond over their shared interests.

Above all, our staff will continue to provide the same level of compassionate, attentive care families have grown to expect from Pacifica Senior Living, and our administrators are going above and beyond to make sure we maintain a high staff-to-resident ratio.

We are striving to minimize the impact of rising costs on our communities, providing the same quality of care while maintaining affordability for families. We welcome families to learn more about the monthly rates at Pacifica Senior Living by chatting with us below -- we offer free, personalized quotes, helping families get a better idea of what they’ll pay if they decide to call our residence home.

According to AARP, an estimated 62 percent of adults over the age of 70 have a smartphone. This group is larger among adults aged between 60 and 69, with an 81 percent rate of adoption. Technology has opened new worlds to America’s aging population, making it easier than ever to go shopping, visit family, and share their favorite photos, but technology comes with risk -- data privacy is essential to proper technology usage, and seniors are a primary target for attacks.

CDC Recommends mRNA Vaccines Over Johnson & Johnson

Dec 20, 2021 8:30:00 AM / by Pacifica Senior Living posted in COVID 19

Vaccinations have been a hot topic since the COVID-19 vaccine became available in December 2020. Now, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) are suggesting most Americans will benefit from a standard dose of the Moderna or Pfizer-manufacturer version of the vaccine, as opposed to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine became an attractive alternative to the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines when the public learned it required only one dose, instead of two like the other manufacturers. However, studies show that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is linked to rare -- but serious -- blood clot disorders, which are not a known side effect of Modern or Pfizer vaccines.

Additionally, the CDC claims Americans should consider the efficacy of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines when choosing their dose. Moderna and Pfizer show marked improvements over the Johnson & Johnson vaccine when it comes to protecting vaccinated individuals from serious illness or death.

Prior to this announcement, the CDC treated all vaccines with an ‘equal choice’ approach, however, their current claims strongly encourage Americans to choose Moderna and Pfizer over Johnson & Johnson when receiving their first vaccine or a booster shot.

According to CDC Advisor Dr. Beth Bell, she “would not recommend the Janssen vaccine to my family members, but some patients may -- and should be able to -- choose that shot.” The Johnson & Johnson vaccine will remain available for individuals who are allergic to Moderna or Pfizer, but the CDC does not recommend it as the first choice for individuals who can receive the safer, more effective Moderna or Pfizer doses.

We invite our residents to ask their caregivers or doctors if they have any questions about the COVID-19 vaccine, or scheduling a booster appointment. We are happy to help our residents get vaccinated and arrange future doses, promoting good health throughout our community. To learn more about our precautionary approach to COVID-19 at Pacifica Senior Living Communities, please chat with us below.
