Feb 2, 2023 3:53:29 PM / by Carly Dodd, Pacifica Senior Living posted in Health and Wellness
Seniors and older adults who are 65 or older have a higher risk of stroke, heart attack, or coronary heart disease. Roughly 85.6 million adults in the United States have been diagnosed with heart disease, and roughly half of that number is over 60. This includes heart problems such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, or other heart problems.
In fact, heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. The good news is that more often than not, it is also preventable. February is American Heart Month, and its aim is to promote Heart and Vascular health awareness. By raising awareness, heart month aims to educate others about cardiovascular disease risks, and help to stop preventable complications.

So many of our residents reached out with words of wisdom, personal stories, or sentiments about Black History Month. Many of our residents impacted younger generations through their work, either as educators, government workers, role models or law enforcement officers.

Memory and our Senses
Memory is one of the most fascinating and complicated processes that occurs within the human brain. As the world population continues to age, more and more research has been done surrounding our memory, and the ways in which we can boost memories, recall them, or delay memory loss.
Our senses are intricately linked to our sense of memory. Most of us have experienced the sensation of having a smell instantly conjure up a memory, or trigger a recollection from our past. Similarly, music and sound has been found to run deep within our psyche, and can be used to trigger memories - even in those suffering from severe memory loss or types of dementia.
