Have you ever heard the term “brain foods?” Certain foods can help promote brain health, boost memory, and are great for overall brain function. Ensuring your brain has all the nutrients and energy it needs to function at optimal levels will help boost your mind health and keep your brain strong.

Happy 4th of July! This Independence Day we celebrate all things America and enjoy being in one another’s company. Fourth of July is a time for fun, games, good food, and even better company. This weekend, many local neighborhoods and towns will hold Independence Day parades, fireworks shows, or revolutionary war reenactments all of which celebrate the American revolution that gave American colonies independence from Great Britain, our founding fathers, and the creation of the declaration of Independence.
Music and Memory: Fighting Memory Loss with the Power of Sound
Jul 1, 2022 10:10:43 AM / by Carly Dodd, Pacifica Senior Living posted in Memory Care
Memory and sense are closely connected. A smell, a feel, or a sound can often evoke strong memories. Music therapy is an important tool in Memory Care fields that can be used to help those dealing with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease or other memory loss conditions.
Music is powerful and emotional. Sounds are so closely linked with internal memories and muscle memories, that often we connect sounds with recollections without even realizing it. If you’ve ever tapped along to a song unconsciously, or remembered all the words to an old childhood tune, you’ve experienced the power music can have in evoking deep, internal memories.

Risotto is a classic Italian rice dish, originally from the Lombardy area of Italy. It is made of short grain rice that is cooked slowly with broth or stock in a way that creates a creamy, silky and decadent dish.
Risotto is a great example of an elevated simple dish. It uses simple ingredients (rice, butter and stock), a careful technique and lots of love to create something truly delicious. You can top your risotto with just about anything, from parmesan cheese, to fresh green peas, bacon, or -as in this case - delicious seafood.
This recipe takes risotto to the next level with fresh shrimp, scallops, calms and a pop of saffron. It is a luxurious dish that’s sure to impress. It's perfect for a romantic date, a special meal, or a dinner party with friends.

Fathers and father figures are often pillars of wisdom, knowledge and advice in our lives. As we gear up to celebrate father’s day in our communities, we asked our residents to share what fatherhood means to them, or what their relationship with their father taught them. Here are just some of the heart warming and inspiring stories from across our communities.
Best Friends Day

What can be better than the unbreakable bond of friendship? Throughout our lives, our friends and peers are there to share with us, lend a hand, offer an ear or advice, or simply spend time together enjoying our favorite activities. June 8th is National Best Friends Day and we want to share some of the stories of best friends in our Pacifica communities.
It can sometimes be difficult to make new friends as we age, but Senior Living communities offer a place where older adults can bond and enjoy activities together. We love seeing the many friendships and life long bonds that form between our residents.

A Story of a Saved Life at Pacifica Palm Springs
May 10, 2022 3:32:45 PM / by Carly Dodd, Pacifica Senior Living posted in Employee Spotlight
We are always so proud of the incredible and meaningful work our Pacifica team provides each and every day. They go beyond the day to day to truly invoke a sense of family and care. That love and caring has never been more real than between resident Carol W. and Velma P. from Pacifica Senior Living Palm Springs.
Velma has been a caregiver for over 17 years, and has recently joined the Pacifica family. At our Palm Spring community, Velma was assisting in the dining hall one evening when she heard some commotion. She scanned around the room and spotted one of the residents, Carol, who had a look of fear and panic on her face.
Velma knew right away that something was very wrong, and Carol was in trouble.

May 9th kicks off the start of Mental Health Awareness Week 2022. Mental health awareness is important to ensure the wellbeing, behavioral health and overall happiness of all. This is a particularly important issue for older adults who are at a higher risk of poor mental health due to factors such as isolation, inactivity, memory loss, and potential physical disabilities. This year's theme is “together we can tackle loneliness,” which is particularly important for seniors who are more likely to feel isolated.
